Climate Action East Linton has taken ownership of the phone box on the high street for the benefit of the residents in East Linton. There is a small team of volunteers who have cleaned and renovated the box and who now manage the calendar for its’ use.

Make this phone box yours

If you have an idea for the use of the space for a specific event/ activity that you would like to lead on please get in touch eastlintonphonebox@gmail.com

The aim is to provide a small space that can be used on a short term basis by different projects in the village. In this way it will not have a permanent use, but has changing uses. For example it could be used in the spring as an area for seed swaps, or small plant swap. It could then be used in the summer for a small fringe event. In the winter it could be taken on, for example, by a book group as a book event.

CAEL is very grateful to Dunpender Community Council for the provision of funds to help cover some of the material costs for its’ restoration. And many thanks go to Julia, Gill, Chris and Jo L for working so hard to restore it.

Upcoming plans for the use of the phone box

How the phone box has been used so far

East Linton Voices

Created by local Theatre Company ‘Catherine Wheels’, stories and memories of life in East Linton have been collected. A wonderful celebration of the place we live in and the lives that make up this community. The sound installation is available Saturday 27th August to Sunday 11th September. If you miss hearing them, all stories can also be heard here

Seed Swap

The phone box was used during Spring 2022 for vegetable and flower seeds to be swapped amongst the community. It is hoped the box can be used for a similar purpose in the following spring.

Messages for COP26

The phone box was used to display messages from the community and children from the school for COP26. It became a key focal point of activities around COP26, with pilgrims on route to Glasgow, members of the community and Paul McLennan MSP visiting it. Key messages were then taken to Glasgow on placards by members of CAEL. All messages have since been collated and sent to Westminster and Holyrood.
